Montagut

When the world is your oyster one of the hard decisions that has to be made is where to go to next. For the last few days we have been talking about our options. Should we go back to France and have some fun in the Ardeche, canoeing the gorge and walking, then move on to the Camargue, Provence and then the Italian lakes, or travel, as was our original plan, along the coast of Spain and then into Portugal. One of our other considerations was when to come home…either before Simon starts work in October or in November when Bluebelle will need a long overdue service and an MOT. The other consideration is that we would like to find somewhere we can rest and recuperate for a while before moving on too far. WHAT???? Recuperte from what I can hear you all say!!! Despite having had the most fantastic time on Windekind we are both feeling really tired from our time onboard. Our constant, uninvited guests…Wendy (windy)….no offence Wendy…, Gus.T (gusty) and Gail, stormy and wavy never seemed to leave us alone.

So, we have decided to travel North in the first instance to find a campsite where we can sit by the pool, walk a little, sleep lots and generally have some R&R!

We followed a very wiggly windy road to Montagut and drove through Montseny National Park and on into the Garrotxa region. It has a fantastic landscape and many many fabulous rock formations all created from the flow of lava from the scattered volcanoes…of which none are still active but lots of craters can still be seen.

Montagut campsite is located just outside the village and close to the main town of Olot. It is just what we were looking for….quiet, tranquil, fantastic views and has plenty of walking opportunities.

We had noticed many clouds looming as we drove the final few miles, but we were not expecting the humungous thunder, lightening and rain storm that hit us within minutes of having set up camp!

Hailstones the size of gobstoppers hammered the tent and van, rain poured off of the awning…we put buckets out in the hope that we might stop the ground inside the awning from getting drenched, but this was all to no avail….we had a river running all around us.

There was nothing for it but to hunker down, make tea as best we could and try to keep warm and dry…so much for a swim in the pool!!!
