Puerto Soller is a beautiful place to be, we both love the ambience, the safe harbour, the waterfront and the little tram that runs backwards and forwards along the front to the main town of Soller a few kms inland. However, it was beginning to drive us a little stir crazy being stuck in harbour because the weather/wind was too much for us to leave and move on. Today looked like it was going to be a little better so we decided to take a trip out to sea, towards Cala Colobra, hopefully to stop and anchor for some lunch before heading safely back to Port again. At dinner last night we had invited Lars and Birgit to join us today...they both jumped at the chance, so we picked them up at the prearranged time and destination and, after a safety briefing from captain BT, we were underway. Lars and Birgit helped to raise the mainsail and we were off. It wasn’t long, however, before we realised that it wasn’t going to be a great day for a sail...the sea was lumpy and bumpy and despite a nice sail to Colobra we decided it was too rough to anchor so we turned back for Soller.
Unfortunately, both Lars and Birgit suffered somewhat with sea sickness...we both felt so bad for them...it was their last full day of holiday and they had spent it feeling rough on our little Windekind...sorry guys!
BT thought he would give Windekind some tlc....so under the water he went to scrape barnacles off of the propeller...all went well until his hand slipped and the barnacles got their own back...this was the result.....several poorly beat up fingers, but this one was the worst!
Treat night tonight....we canoed ashore to pick up an indian takeaway which we greedily devoured aboard Windekind as the sun went down.
As we went to bed, plans were afoot to cut loose from Soller tomorrow and set sail for Puerto Pollenca. The winds were looking in our favour and we were ready for a change of scene!
Hi Simon and Yvonne. We certainly also enjoyed the meeting with you, although the shower was cold and the sea was rough for some poor vikingancestors (- as Simon mentioned - Britain doesnt to fear another vikinginvasion from the sea). We had a good last day in Palma, were we did some shopping. And comming home to newpainted house and our son and daughter, who had a great trip to Iceland - was also nice. Look forward to hear more -and hope to see you again some day. All the best - Birgit and Lars
