A quiet cala in which to end the day...

Sunday 3rd August 2014

Fresh fruit, yoghurt and coffee were on the menu for breakfast...a reasonably healthy start to the day. It was a lazy, slow Sunday morning start for most of the boats around us today...the sun is so hot by 10 in the morning that it’s hard to get going some days! We needed to get some washing done today, so armed with trusty bucket and shower hose the clothes were washed as best as we can manage aboard and then strewn ALL over Windekind...what a sight we must be!

We left San Miguel after a brief trip ashore to dump our rubbish and buy more ice for the fridge. Typically, the wind did not do what it was forecast to do today, but, despite this we had a lovely sail about 3 miles up the coast to a large bay. As we approached the bay we both thought we could see a large apartment block on the shore...only to discover a few minutes later that it was an enormous superyacht...more like a private ship, anchored one side of the bay.....as we keep saying, there are some amazing boats out here, but there always seems to be someone who has yet another one even bigger than the last..

This bay has two beaches, both small with typical basic sandy beach bars. We anchored just off of one of the beaches and then took the opportunity to jump over the side and snorkel the bay. It’s absolutely amazing...we saw shoals of tiny bright blue fish, swathes of silvery fish about 10 cms long that caught the sun and made them sparkle as they twisted and turned, large grumpy looking fish, amazing seaweed that looks like curly wurly trumpety funnels, gently swaying fluffy weed, crabs scuttling under rocks and groups of little black fish that swim around you as if you weren’t there intruding on their world...it really is a unique place to be....all the while listening to the crackle of the fish nibbling at the weeds and plants...what a privilege to be able to experience all of this....

The afternoon was spent in blissful relaxation...BT says I was a Billy sloth in the hammock....

We are so often on the move, it’s great to be able to stop and relax and watch the world go by. We had time for another snorkel before tea and as I sit and write this now, the candles are alight on the back deck, fluttering in the ever so slight breeze, the sea is gently lapping up against the rocks around us, people are chattering quietly and the reflection of the moon on the water is sparkling a path straight towards the boat.
