Reflections….

Tuesday 5th August 2014

BT woke early to see the sun rising and turning the cliff faces vibrant orange…but, despite his best efforts, by the time he managed to raise Billy the sun was heading higher into the sky and the stunning colours had all but gone…it was still only 8am! Nevertheless, we both climbed into Mango Tango…not very gracefully in Billy's case….and paddled around the nearby coves photographing many of the gorgeous fishermen's huts…which, incidentally, are very much in use here…many of them by local guys who keep their little Catalan style boats in the huts and then go fishing either first thing in the morning or just as the sun is setting.

Last night we saw one of these boats go out with what looked like the Grandfather, Son and very excited looking Grandson!…What a fantastic sight. Family seems to be of great importance here…or wherever we go in Spain. They all meet regularly and spend lots of time together.

Once we had finished being arty farty with our reflection photography we quietly motored away from the mooring. We decided that as the wind seems to arrive by about 10 am, we should get underway in order to beat the worst of it. Typically for us though, the wind never did materialise today and we motored along on a mirror glass sea…fascinated by the reflections in the water, passing a fisherman quietly waiting for the all important catch and as we entered Saint Eulailia once again we passed yet another huge super yacht….how to make yourself feel very small in an instant!

It was great to finally anchor and hop ashore for some stability, space and headroom! We found a launderette where we could leave our washing and return at 7pm to pick  it all up all clean and smelling gorgeous….a real treat!

Food shopping was the main focus of today. we are hoping to make the hop to Formentera tomorrow, so need to stock up with supplies. It's amazing how well we eat considering we only have one gas ring to cook on…however, we are beginning to get a little bored with ratatouille, mince and curry…anyone got any great ideas…? Our main problem is that although we do have a fridge, we can't keep in running all the time as it drains the batteries very quickly. So, when we shop, we do buy ice to keep it cool in there, but inevitably, because it is so hot here, it melts very quickly and any fresh food doesn't last that long. Vegetables last a day or two and fruit a little longer. We do buy tinned food but you get to a point where you just crave fresh veg and fruit….I think we just have to accept that we need to shop more often that we would really like to.

It was a naughty/treat day today…we ate out at both lunchtime and dinnertime….lovely! By the way the lunchtime menu was only 9 euro's 90….for a 3 course meal with a drink!!! I know what you are thinking….yes, we did still go out for dinner too…us sailors get very hungry you know!!!!

BT set a second anchor this evening to turn Windekind to face into the waves/ripples…otherwise we would have been rocking ALL night long…not something we relish at all. Consequently, we had a great nights sleep and woke to relative calm and tranquility.

  1. Back in Dartmouth where the sun is also shining and very hot! I am here on my own for a few days and the plan had been to paint the garage woodwork. I think I might just postpone it for a day or so, the weather is just too good! Tonight booked to go to Taming if the Shrew being performed at the castle, should be fun!
Happy birthday for tomorrow Yvonne, not many times you'll be enjoying it on a boat in foreign waters, cheers with some sangria! Xxx
P.s. I LOVE the pictures of the reflection of the mast particularly the second one, wish I could paint! Enjoy your travels, lots of love

  2. Well my lovely big sister, I was thinking how best to send you happy birthday wishes so here I am! How wonderful to spend your special day in such beautiful surroundings, and if you have enough alcohol the rocking of the boat will be eclipsed by the cabin spinning! Looking forward to the 'big one' next year - you'd better be around so that we can PAAAARRTEEEEE!!! Loads of love to you both, hope you've had a super day xxxx
