The water was crystal clear and still when we awoke...however, we knew that the wind was due to change yet again, and staying put would mean more bumphly waves and an uncomfortable day. So, over breakfast we made the decision to head back to Ibiza...to try to find some shelter from the ever changing winds and to find a place to stop and rest awhile...instead of constantly having to move on because of the wind and weather.
Before we left Cala Saona however, we met David who pulled alongside in his rib. David is an English skipper of a 70FT yacht, working out of PALMA, but he owns a boatyard in Cornwall. BT and he had plenty to talk about in the few minutes before David had to return to his guests. We set sail shortly after for Santa Eulailia and were pleasantly surprised to see David following...this is the moment he overtook us….
It was a good sail to Santa Eulailia but the wind was onshore and the sea began to get quite rough as we arrived. Having taken the decision to go to Santa Eulailia we found were a bit trapped in the anchorage by the increasing onshore winds.
We felt sure that Windekind was settled at her anchorage happily, despite the rather large waves rolling into the beach, so we made a quick dash for land...we needed to feel solid ground beneath our feet again...land that wasn’t constantly moving! So, we headed for our favourite cafe...the creperie and both had strawberry smoothies and a crepe each...well deserved we thought! We had hoped to get our washing cleaned at the launderette that we had used last time but, unbeknown to us, it was closed because today is another Spanish fiesta day...apparently there are many of these days in August...great for the locals, but for us travellers not so good as the shops close...even the tourist information office...which we found very odd...but not the bars and cafes...yay!!! We asked the lady who ran the cafe if she was aware of anywhere else we could get our washing done...we explained that we were on a small boat...whimper, whimper...doey eyes...and that we couldn't really wait until tomorrow to have clean washing as we may have to move on...more whimpering and even larger doey eyes...well (!!!), bless her, she offered to take our washing home and bring it back at 10pm when she would be returning to work again. ‘Really”? was our astonished (!) reply...”we will pay you”...which we did and she very kindly took our rather large bag of stiff and salty washing home, washed it and returned with it lovely and clean...our only issue now was how to dry it. Meanwhile, whilst our washing was being done, we tried to find lots of excuses not to return to Windekind. but the only one we could come up with was that we needed to eat..so we had a meal out and then very reluctantly made our way back onto our roly poly Windekind. BT decided that we would have no sleep anchored where we were, so in the dead of night we moved her further inshore, in front of a ferry quay to a much less wavy place...BT also put out a stern anchor which held us into the waves, making it a much more comfortable night.
