Overnight the wind turned onshore and we woke to a very very bouncy sea. Our first thought was just to sit it out …. not good for either of us as we soon begin to feel yuk..but then BT had an ingenious idea…lets sail around the island. So, up we hopped and sprang into action, within a few minutes we were off. It was quite a struggle to get up past Espalmador, but once we were around the other side, it was much calmer and we had a fantastic sail as far as Es Pujols.

We found a fantastic spot to anchor…not far from the shore…so we were soon on dry land for a coffee. We had no idea how much we would like this town…yes, it's touristy but somehow it feels less frantic than La Savina. It has a great little beach…almost like a lagoon, and lots of laid back, cool cafes and bars. I wish I'd taken a camera ashore to show you some photos, but unfortunately it was left behind. Never fear though, we are hoping to return when Harriet and Abbie come and join us for a week…I will definitely take photos then.
We returned to Windekind only to find that the wind had freshened…earlier than expected…and we needed to move on asap! So, it was back up with the sails and off we went. I'm increasingly amazed at how quickly the sea can change once there is some wind…one minute it can be flat calm and the next the waves are rippling all around you. As we set sail from Es Pujols, one of these waves decided to jump up and dump itself all over BT and I…completely drenching us and nothing else….we just turned to look at each other in disbelief ! I suggested to BT that we should complete the rest of the journey wearing our masks and snorkels….not a silly idea really, we got wet more than once more!!!
Once around the headland and past Es Calo, I jumped overboard……not because I'd had enough and the whole experience had driven me mad…but because the water was amazing and BT suggested that I might like a quick snorkel….BT sailed away with the promise to come and pick me up whilst I went exploring….

Our final destination of the say was Cala Saona….we found a lovely little spot in the corner…and according to BT…after diving to check the anchor…we are floating on top of our very own aquarium! I can't wait to snorkel tomorrow!

ReplyDeleteLovely to hear from you….. Dartmouth is not the only busy place…it feels like the whole world has come on holiday on their boats here!!! It has been raining today…the first since Christmas day…but it's still warm (ish)! Keep in touch. Lots of love xxx
ReplyDeleteNow I'm getting worried. First of all he sends you up the mast, then he sends you snorkelling and sails away - just watch out - there is sure to be some pretext to make you walk the plank!!!
ReplyDeleteUmmmm! We had a VERY eventful sail in a storm with no visibility, monsoon rain, no GPS, 3m seas yesterday…we got absolutely drenched and thrown about all over the place….midway through Simons comment was…I don't think I've kept my promise to your mum…keeping you safe and out of harms way…!!!!! Did you feel a need to pray at all???? Just to reassure you, we are both ok…spent the day recovering today and getting everything shipshape again. Simon says "Sorry"!! Lots of love to you both from us two xxxxx
