Moving on to Cala Es Calo

Sunday 10th August 2014

Believe it or not, but we were up bright and early this morning....during the night the wind had shifted to an onshore wind which meant that where we were would soon become even more uncomfortable (bumphly water) and not a safe place to stay. BT hopped ashore to collect yet more ice, some chicken for dinner tonight, and some water. He was not so fortunate with the huge, ferry generated waves today though...he came back looking like a drowned rat, explaining that one of the waves had broken over the top of him!!! I have to admit though that I fell about laughing when he told me...no sympathy there then!!!

It was then back to shore to pick Anthony up who was joining us for the sail today...and also, very kindly providing lunch...melon and Parma ham.

We were sailing round to Cala Es Calo... 5 miles as the crow flies but about 15 miles by sea....but to get there we had to sail all the way up one side of a narrow sand spit ( almost heading back to Ibiza) and back down the other side.

We stopped at Playa Llevant for a swim, where we met Javi and Marcel. They had spotted us as we sailed along and were taking great interest in Windekind. We invited them onboard and learnt that Javi and 2 friends are restoring a 1931, 15m classic Ibizan boat, which they found wrecked on a beach in San Antonio a few years ago. They have a Facebook page showing the restoration… https://www.facebook.com/reinadelmareivissa

BT and Javi could have talked boats for hours, but the promise of being able to visit the restoration project in Sant Eulalia kept them in check for now! Billy is planning a shopping expedition that day!!!

As you can see, the water is a fabulous colour...too good to be true! We had a swim and beer before quietly sailing from the mooring, Anthony at the helm, and making for Cala Es Calo.

As you can imagine wit the wind changing direction, many of the boats anchored off Sabina are now anchored on this side of the island.....it’s still no where near as busy as it has been, so there is plenty of space. We anchored in crystal clear water, had lunch and then took Anthony ashore to catch his bus home. Whilst BT was ashore, he met a young Spanish couple, Xavier and Rosie, who are here on holiday for the first time. They instantly hit it off...remember, BT talks to everyone!!...with a promise of meeting in Barcelona or the UK one day. Xavier’s parting comment was that BT had changed his life....good advice given and received with grateful thanks.

We had a quick paddle around the bay, which is absolutely stunning....promising that tomorrow we will take many more photos and snorkel the many reefs that fringe the shore.

Whilst having a brief swim and checking the anchor we saw several camouflaged flat fish with goggly eyes bumbling about over the sand that had been disturbed by the anchor..They were so well hidden, you really had to look hard for them!

As I sit and write this now, we have just witnessed the most amazing sunset.. turning the soft fluffy clouds amazing, vibrant shades of orange and pink....and on the other side the full moon appearing over the cliff making us both gasp in wonder .....watching as it rose into the sky making a pathway of glittery silver water direct to Windekind.

  1. The colours and reflections are stunning, if only you could bottle it! The moon was magnificent here as well, you could almost read by it last night! Can you get moon burn? We caught the tail end of hurricane Bertha, with lots of rain and wind, luckily the rain at night and sunshine again in the day. Heading back to kent for a week or so tomorrow, it has been lovely to indulge in being here on my own, shame you weren't here to catch up with. Never mind, it will have to wait till winter. Love to you both. Xxx ingrid
